How do I create a role description?

Waymaker's AI Role Description builder will create a best practice role description in just a few minutes.

Waymaker uses AI to build a best practice role description for a current or future role in your organization. It takes just a few minutes using AI and you can download as a .doc or go on to create an advertisement to recruit the role. Here's how to create a role description. 

  1. Go to People > Role Descriptions. 
  2. Click the '+ Role Description' button. This will open the Role Description AI Builder. Work through each of the 7 tabs; Role, Goals, Tasks, Skills, Systems, Values, & Manage. Start with Role.

  3. Role.
    1. Complete the role title.
    2. Set the status of active, draft, or archived. 
    3. Write the purpose of the role. Keep the role purpose simple. Use the framework, 'This role exists to .... '. Click the "AI" button to have the AI rewrite the role purpose using all the available information. 
    4. Complete the look up on the role this role reports to. Note, this is a role name not a person.

    5. Click next when ready. You can always click 'back' to go back to a prior section. 
  4. Goals - document the performance expectations of this role.
    1. Enter the name of the goal that this role exists to deliver on an annual bases. 
    2. Click 'Add Goal'. 
    3. Add the outcomes that would relate to this goal in generate terms. 
    4. Or, click the 'AI' button and the AI will write the recommended goal and outcomes for this role. 
    5. Click on any text to edit.

    6. Click next when ready. 
  5. Tasks - document the task expectations and how the relate to delivering outcomes.
    1. Enter a task description manually and then relate an outcome from the goal and document a 'why' this is important. 
    2. Or, click the 'AI' button and the AI will write the tasks, relate them to the outcomes, and document why this is important for this role. 
    3. Add a playbook by looking up the name of a playbook if that playbook is a procedure or process relevant to the task.

    4. Click next when ready. 
  6. Skills - document the skills competency for this role. 
    1. Document a skill manually and click 'Add Skill'. Then document the expectation of the skill level and why this is important. 
    2. Or, click the AI button and the AI will write this information for you. 
    3. Edit content as required by clicking on text.

    4. Click next when ready. 
  7. Systems - document the systems capabilities for this role. 
    1. Write a system and click 'Add System' and then document the expectation of capability on that system and why it is important. 
    2. Or, click the 'AI' button and the AI will write this information for you. 
    3. Edit content as required by clicking on text.

    4. Click next when ready. 
  8. Values - align organization values to the principles and expected behaviors of this role. 
    1. Type one or more organizational values and lick 'Add Value'. 
    2. Waymaker's AI will generate the value - principle - behavior table that outlines the expectation of behaviors for this role.
    3. Edit content as required by clicking on text.

    4. Click next when ready. 
  9. Leadership & management framework - set out the meeting, reports, and learning expectations of this role. 
    1. Add an activity, such as a meeting, report, or learning action, that is expected of this role in the normal course of duties. Manually the cadence, owner, roles involved, and why this is important for this role. 
    2. Or, click the AI and Waymaker's AI will write the leadership and management framework based on the knowledge of the role and industry. 
    3. Edit content as required by clicking on text.

    4. Click create when done. 
  10. Search or scroll to find your Role Description in the Role Description table. Click on the name of the role description to view the full role description as a page. 
  11. In the top right menu choose to do the following.
    1. Download as a .doc
    2. Create an ad using AI for this role description. 
    3. Edit the role description (re-opens to the editor).
    4. Exit the role description.
